What is Italian shrink leather?

What is Adria Leather?
Italian leather produced by Mastrotto, a long-established tannery in Italy, the home of leather.

Among them, Italian shrink leather undergoes a special shrink processing called shrink, which shrinks the leather to create a wrinkled appearance and moderate elasticity.

It features a soft and supple texture in appearance. It is often used for shoes and bags.

Why is the beautiful color preserved?

Why is the beautiful color preserved?
Among the world's top three leather countries—France, the UK, and Italy—Italian leather is especially known for its beautiful color development.

The Italian shrink leather introduced here is carefully tanned to prevent leather decay, and dyed over time so that the dye penetrates evenly not only on the surface but also inside.

Furthermore, we use water-based lacquer without solvents like thinner, finishing in a way that is gentle to people and the environment.

This also preserves the depth of color and texture, allowing you to enjoy beautiful and rich colors for a long time.

Genuine leather smartphone cases seem heavy
Generally, items made of genuine leather such as shoes and bags are considered heavy as a disadvantage. However, the weight of leather varies depending on processing methods and thickness.

At COVERARY, we have introduced equipment in our own workshop that allows thinning of leather thickness. Using the thinning technique of skilled craftsmen, we use genuine leather thinned uniformly to the limit to make smartphone cases.

Therefore, even when using genuine leather, you can use relatively lightweight smartphone cases.

Is Italian shrink leather water-resistant?

In fact, water repellency is one of the features of Italian shrink leather. However, we often receive inquiries from customers asking, "Is it really okay if it gets wet?" So, we actually tested it!

~If water exposure is left untreated for 1 hour~

After dripping water on the Italian shrink leather used by COVERARY and leaving it for an hour, it was wiped off. As a result, water did not seep into the leather surface, and there was almost no water damage.

~If water exposure on scratched leather is left untreated~

Even with the water repellency of Italian shrink leather, if there are scratches on the surface, water seeped in from the scratch within 15 minutes.

Basically, genuine leather is considered weak against water, but with the water repellency of Italian shrink leather, even if it gets a little wet, quickly wiping it off should prevent major damage.

However, if water seeps into scratches on the leather surface, the leather fibers may swell and harden, or stains may form. As a precaution, using a leather care spray before use can prevent water stains and dirt.
